Our History

The Syrian Canadian Business Association (SYCAB) was established in October 2006 with a clear vision: to strengthen economic, trade, professional, and institutional relations between Syria and Canada, while creating new opportunities for cooperation and partnership between the business communities of both countries.

The Association’s launch brought together prominent government and business representatives, including the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, two ministers, and approximately 250 business leaders and economists. At the time, bilateral trade between Syria and Canada amounted to approximately USD 54 million, while oil investments involving Canadian companies were estimated at USD 250 million, with six companies participating, including Groundstar, Petro-Canada, and Loon Energy.

This strong beginning laid the foundation for the Association’s ongoing efforts to connect businesses and institutions, strengthen commercial relations, and explore opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries.
